If this is your first time, Welcome!

The first step is to sign up for a Plex account over at Plex.tv!

It’s free, and really easy to do. Once you’ve created your account using the Yellow Sign Up Button in the upper right hand corner, you can then contact me with the email you used to sign up for Plex.

Once you’ve sent me your email address, give me some time and I will be able to add you to the list of users. Once you’re in, you should get an email saying that you’ve been added!

Most smart TV’s will have a plex application. If not, you can always cast it from the Plex application on your phone to a Chromecast or similar device. You can also view SethFlix directly on your mobile device, just note that Plex requires a ONE-TIME payment of 5 dollars to do so. This goes directly to plex themselves and is well worth it as it helps them out and keeps their lights on. The Monthly subscription is NOT necessary, and is only really needed for downloading content to play offline.

Setting up the app

Setting up the app is easy, but may take a little configuration. When you first log into the Plex app, it should give you a prompt with some check boxes to pin to your homescreen. If not, just follow the instructions in the image below. It may not be the same for all devices, but it should be very similar.

Setting your stream quality

The default remote streaming quality is 720p. This is relatively low and most connections can handle streaming much more than that. To improve your stream quality be sure to set your remote stream quality in the settings to Maximum so that plex will try to serve you the best picture quality possible. This is actually best so the server doesn’t have to spend time transcoding your video to smaller picture and can just serve you the file directly. If your connection is too slow, you can select a lower quality until it starts to work manually later. Plex uses its own processes to figure out stream quality if there are too many connections at the same time.

Please note that I have a 50 MBPS upload, which means the maximum stream quality may be adjusted down for everyone if too many people are viewing content and the connection can’t keep up. Expect this to happen during primetime hours and it is much less likely outside of those hours. The people that use plex live around the world so primetime hours will vary GREATLY, but are usually from 5-6 EST to about Midnight.
